Webmasterworld is proud to announce PubConference 5! the web marketing and promotion event of 2003, to be held in london England and hosted by WebmasterWorld Members.

You've been hearing about the other Pubcons and last years sold out PubCon London - wishing you had been there right!?
Don't miss this opportunity to open yourself to new methods and strategies for web marketing revealed by the friends and family of WebmaserWorld at PubCon 5!

When?
Saturday September 20th, 2003, 1pm to whenever.

Where?
Cittie of Yorke Pub in downtown London England. A great place for a weekend conference. There's been a Pub there since the year 1430.

The main bar is a cavernous mediaeval-style hall with a high vaulted ceiling and everywhere you look there are carved oak panels, ornate metalwork and some of the biggest oak vats you'll ever see above the bar - it's like an elven king's hall out of The Lord Of The Rings. (-professor hardbottle)

Why?
The premise is simple, many of our members are qualified to speak at conferences and are bored to tears when attending other ones. So why did we go to them? Just to get to the bar and network with people! The contacts, the associations, the follow ups, and the friendships have been some of the most productive contacts we have ever been part of.

What's in it for me?
The Short scoop? It's your chance to put yourself in the loop with the in marketing crowd (it's probably why you came to this site).

Agenda:
;) TBA

Sponsors:
The usual suspects... Thanks to last years crew: AllTheWeb, Position Tech, Inktomi, SearchEngineCommando, Overture UK, Espotting, Yahoo UK

Special Guests? Who will be there?
Everyone who is anyone in European SEO.

Travel - goin mobile:
We've been watching air fares from the US to London since June, and they are as inexpensive right now as they have been all year long!

Cost:
All funds go directly towards the cost of hosting the event (venue expenses, and the OPEN bar etc..).

Early bird signup until the end of August...

Got Site? Sure:

Which airport is the closest? I'm a total London newbie and not much of a traveler. I'd appreciate any pointers.

It doesn't really matter, it's six of one, half a dozen of the other. Just fly into the cheapest airport. All airports have good connectivity to central London (an hour's travel max).

It'd take you about the same time to get to the City from Stansted, Luton, or Heathrow, and perhaps a tiny bit longer from Gatwick.. but nothing major. The Pub conference (and hotels) are so central, they're not really 'near' one airport or the other.

(Okay, I lie, 'London City Airport' is only a few miles away, but it only accepts private flights and business short-hauls from Europe. I've never seen a major international carrier fly into there)

Thanks, just came back from my travel agent, and appearantly they add a premium to fly to heathrow, so I think I choose gatwick to save a few quid... More beer for me ;)

Can't wait to get back to a civilised country with decent beer. I'm a münchner in beer-heathen country.

Anyone here at another Hotel other than the Thistle?

My Boss has suddenly become bit reluctant to pay for the hotel, so I might need domewhere cheaper, but don't want to miss out on all the fun!

Cheers,
Chris.

Was at the event in Boston this year that was cool. And will be In London this time around also. Now why is it I always have to fly no matter where anything is on, it's about time you guys came to Scotland for an event, we will show you what a real pub is, where we don't sell any of them sissy drinks. And the only thing you get in your whisky is more whisky (yes that's the correct spelling) :)

Anyway I going to stay at a friends house when I am down but I will be around, and a big hello to the UK troops that went to Boston this year, see you in London.

Best Wishes,

Clarke

I must say I am surprised at people's concerns over the hotel pricing. I am a bit of a tightwad, but I thought £60 for a night in London was cheap! You would be pushed to find a hotel in, say, Manhattan for that kinda rate (without Priceline anyways!). That said, I'm only there for one night, so it doesn't really add up :-)

Well, it's been a struggle - we've had to stay for just one night, in a VERY cheap hotel, and i'm sure we'll wish we'd gone for longer, but me and a collegue are booked and ready! Woohoo! (Three cheers for budget cuts!:()

(Oh, if you see a brit and a yank come to the hotel bar, looking dazed and confused, please come say hi! - we're a bit worried cause we're coming late and leaving early ;))

See you all there. :)

I'm in, too. oLeon transferred me his registration. It's a pity, that he have no time to visit the conference, but it's good for me. I think I'll arrive on Friday. I have to find a Hotel first.

So are we going to wear tags or swap pictures before? Or should I just start randomly buying strangers drinks until they pour out SEO secrets in a drunk stupor?

Supercod "about time came to Scotland"

I'd agree with that - especially as I'm moving up there next year from the hole that is London. Nice hole admittedly but rather sticky and smelly with the hot weather.

Edinburgh would suit nicely.

TinkyWinky, I'll join you on the Guinness, being a Dub, but only if it's good.

George, look out for me, I seem to recall we have something in common.

See you all tomorrow.

Yes, another last minuter...

Anybody staying at the Thistle Barbican?

I've got Saturday night at the Islington but decided that Friday night is kind of essential too. Both the Islington and the Ryan out of rooms now, including through Expedia. Barbican 3/4 mile away - 1 stop on the tube.

Failing that, does anyone know of a hotel closer that's still got availability?

Personally I'm planning to turn up at the Thistle Islington lunchtime-ish tomorrow (barring acts of God and/or problems with the trains).

Since I'm new at this whole PubCon thing, I assume the best way to spot other PubCon'ers is just to check out the bar / lobby?

I vote we all adopt a 'first impressions' dress code by wearing a halloween mask, a clown hat, or something similarly obvious ;-)

(I just want to see everyone looking stupid really *g*)
