Secondary engines - which ones are worth it?

Or is it a waste of time?

Looking for SEs other than the majors that may be worth the few minutes of submission time.

A couple I have found that seem to have merit:

webtop
whatuseek

What others may have some reasonable potential?

I realize these are really dwarfed by the majors, but if you submit to say, 5 or 10, and get as many referrals from them (combined) as you would from a SE with the volume of one such as Northernlight, me thinks it's worth the time.

Thoughts?

If they list a straight url so you can get a popularity boost, and the submission process is ultra-easy, and they don't spam you (careful on that one), it might be worth the time ...particularly if your site has a high-$$ conversion and can generate revenue on single-digit uniques.

But doing SEO for that kind of website is pretty rare. If/when I submit to these, I'd have to classify it as "hobby," "need a change," or "obsession."

The one notable exception occurs when one of these SE's or directories happens to make it big through some sort of alliance. Look what previous time spent in Looksmart would be worth now. But those tea leaves are hard to read.

We use Submission Wizard to submit to hundreds of smaller engines. It takes some time to input the data into the system, but once the info. is stored it is very easy to run the program. If you choose to use something like this, make sure you don't use the program to submit to the majors. We rarely see referrals from any of these small engines but it's so simple that it's cost effective for us.

>"obsession."
I guess that's me for right now. Since I just completed my site rev with SEO taken into account, I am very submission-happy.

>high-$$ conversion and can generate revenue on single-digit uniques
Not really my site, but it does help when looking at overall earnings per visitor. I am mainly scratching and clawing at anything I can to succeed, hoping to not have to go back to work for "the man."

>Submission Wizard
I took a look at submitwolf and addweb last night. I didn't get too far, as they have lots of engines that are region specific. Does submission wizard have a good many that are US based? That is my target audience.

Is there a good resource listing these type engines?

A submission that pays off in gold is the submission to the 'open directory project' (www.dmoz.org). This info is used by several major and minor search engines, and a quick way ot get into their listings
