I'm relativley new to SEO issues & have been learning as I go over the past 6 months, so sorry if I ask any dumb questions in what follows....
I've been trying to get a site submited with no success for over 5 months now - my logs show no traffic is coming from any SE :(
It is a flash site - yes I knowthat flash isn't SE frindly, but I was kinda hoping that the HTML home page would at least get a listing as I have a keyword in my URL & page content has been optimized as best I can - still no joy yet - can anyone confirm that I am indeed wasting my time by just trying to submit one page?
I'm in the process of building a HTML version so when that's done I'll be submiting those pages - can anyone confirm that this is a good strategy?
I have another question - a mate told me that certain serach engines will not index your HTML page if it does not have at least 100 words of text on it - is this true? if so which SEs does this apply to?
Thanx in advance
The basic stuff first: do you have meta information in your html page? Like description, keywords and the like?
Next point would be what kind of site you have, as many search engines don't accept some sites, like sex, terrorist and/or political extremism and so on.
In my experience, 5 months is long enough a time for search engines and directories to index a site, so there is probably a reason yours isn't on there. But then you say you don't get traffic from SEs, did you ever try searching for your site yourself? If you can find your site but get no traffic, it is time to check your description/keywords.
As for your question regarding pages with les than 100 words of text, I have a website with an entry page which only redirects the user to a popup window. It is indexed with altavista, lycos and google at least. I have never heard of such a restriction with any SE.
Yeah it's all in place & I have used various online keyword density analizers & spider simulators to check what is going on - there seems to be no problems in this dept
I have tried searching for the site - found a couple of links but no direct search result for the site
the site is commercial, non transactional, bathroom retail promotion site.
Wait a second, I thought that was just the point of submitting your URL??? That you were certain that the SEs spider would at least go to your homepage in the next couple of months?
My impression was that having inbound links can get you indexed if you are lucky, the main use being improvement your PR.
This is rather frustrating as the search for the URL reveals nothing (eg site:..etc...).
Other links have been promised by suppliers & are slowly appearing - this is slowly happening as a reciprocal links campaign is under way.

In fact, Google says themselves that they won't list a site unless there are links to it from other sites in their database. So you certainly need at least one.
Submitting your URL is no guarantee that you'll be listed, and actually some argue that it's not even worth the time or effort: build a few links and let them find you.
And if dommmm's site has just one incoming link, that might be the problem. Some things to look at: what's the PR of the linking page? Which of your pages does it link to (especially worth thinking about since it's a Flash site).
Really the solution to dommmm's listing problem is probably just to develop more links.
