One of the search engine submission newsletters I'm buried in suggested putting <!--- description of site -- > between the Head and Title tags. Is there any valid html rules to this, is the space necessary at the end? It was suggested this would help with excite, but that a special page be made for the purpose. I'm wondering if it would cause trouble if added to the general headers, would other search engines view it as hidden text and ban my site? A: Helps, B: Hurts, C: Does nothing. Thanks.

Hey Robert - Welcome to WMW.
What you are talking about (comment tags) are relatively useless in today's SEO. There was a time when comments worked very well for rankings but those days are gone (I miss them :))

You are better off to leave them out. The only use comment tags have these days are to mark off interesting bits of code for the sake of other editors that may be editing your pages.

Howdy, thanks for dialing us up Robert.

Yes, the old comment tag used to work wonders on Lycos. I've not noticed it working anywhere in quite awhile.
