The only place I found my site is (drum roll) AltaVista (and even that is an "old" page).
So - now what? It is completely irrelevant what keywords I used if for some reason the site doesn't get listed.
I checked my site with various tools and although here and there a bit lengthy, it still ok. Only two pages needs submitted, and my site is not an adult, gambling or illegal activy site (maybe I should change that).
Any suggestion is more than welcome.
With AV, any automated submission can't work because you have to enter the code by hand and submit 5 URLs with each entry of the code. Limiting to 5 pages per day from a given site is the safe way to go.
Two down that resist regular submission, only a few more to go. Submit to Excite, Direct Hit, Northern Light and Wisenut, at least the main page to FAST (and they are fast) and just for good measure, submit to Lycos. Stick with 5 pages per day with Lycos - they'll be by within a matter of a couple of hours. They do almost instant spidering, although they do use FAST's data.
I'd stay away from FFAs, but if you're referring to your profile site, you might want to hunt down some specialized legitimate directories to list the site with. It couldn't hurt to try for a free Yahoo submission -it's the holiday season, you might run into some generosity.
It does not take that long to do hand submissions. It does take a while to get indexed some places, but once you're in, you'll receive regular visits, with only an occasional need to give a nudge with resubmitting, especially when you add new content or pages.
I think that's all the important ones. Inktomi is a different story, but AOL and MSN use their data. Try the free submit at HotBot; not likely it will do much good, but it only takes a few minutes. If you're targeting MSN & AOL and there aren't many directory listings for your chosen phrases, you might do a page or two paid Inktomi before the prices go up on the 28th.

I have submitted to all the SEs you mentioned manually, and I have not done any FFAs because, as you suggested, legit ones are not easy to come by.
I will resubmit to these again manually and see if it works around the holidays...

If there is any problem, it might take creating more content on the site. Just speculating, it will take someone who knows to give anything definitive.

There are a few factors into why this may have happened:
- Password-restricted areas like Marcia stated
- The editor could have been short on time so he/she just glanced at your site but will look into it more at another time.
- The editor could have found that this site didn't match the category you submitted it to, so he/she moved it to another category. Then you have to wait for the other category's editor to review it.
- There could be some issue with your site and the editor has asked other editors to give their opinion before accepting/declining it.
- .....the worst case scenario: The editor didn't like your site and just tossed it away. It happens.
Wait a few weeks and if you don't see anything then resubmit it again. If you resubmit anytime soon you might tick off the editor.
I hope one day they will run a responder program that tells you if you have been accepted or declined. Would save a lot of wasted time and useless re-submissions.

I have tried various grousp, different editors, wrote messages, etc.
Not once have I received a reply back, explaining why is my site not listed.
Any suggestions? Obviously I cannot "buy" my way into DMOZ (or can I?)...
I am an editor, and I won't add a site if I'm not allowed to review it all. I'm pretty sure that's true of most if not all editors.
You're right, it is not listed as a requirement and I think it should be.

Unfortunatley, there is no definite answer. It just depends on how long it takes for an editor to review your site -days, weeks?
One thing I would recommend. After you write your description for your site, add a note to the editor. Tell them that you have submitted before, but werent' aware that you needed to give them a password, but you are doing so this time. Then add it at the end of this note.

They said there is 170 sites waiting in that category, and they had no better or alternative suggestion for categories, except a regional one...
A legal question -
Is DMOZ one of the two de-facto WWW search resources (Google being the other one)?
If someone is not included in one these two, are they harmed?
If they are harmed, and the two de-facto WWW search resources' guidelines clearly allow the site in, are they liable?
NOTE: I am not looking for a quick buck on a lawsuit, just discussing theoricial possibilities.
BTW, have you tried getting yourself listed in Googles' categories? This is separate from their SE index and sometimes sites that can't get listed in their index can get listed in the categories.
There are some other directories you CAN buy your way into, if you're so inclined. These include LookSmart and Yahoo. You could also purchase SE "real estate" on Overture. I personally believe getting listed on these sites will help rankings on non-paid engines.
If I were you I'd go through the ODP categories and find some quality related sites to get links from to get the PR up.
You're also #10 for that phrase at alltheweb.com It looks to be optimization that's needed, not submission; you're already in.

No, you cannot buy your way into DMOZ. And I highly recommend you don't try.
