How long does it usualy take form when you start submitting a new site till the SE's start generating hits? My log files show that I have been spidered. Inktomi took a real good look, but google only gave 2 hits. What gives? Since this is all new to me I don't know what to expect. Also, how do you know if you've been banned? I have made mistakes.:) WmW has helped put me on the path.
With the last site I launched, it took 3 months before I was listed in most engines, and 5 months for an Excite listing. But it was only about a month or two before I saw a significant traffic increase from the SEs that updated quickly.
Welcome to the fora. The Search Engines really do fluctuate between being seen within one month and taking up to 6 months. As mivox has suggested, look at the upper left of your screen for the search function of the site and read up on some previous threads about this. There is a lot of great information in past threads.
That having been said, I'd recommend getting into the major indexes as these can show traffic almost immediately. NBCi can bring you traffic within 2-3 days after being accepted. The only barrier is the $99 submission fee. Yahoo would be next up in terms of generating traffic within a relatively short period of time, followed by Looksmart and ODP. Once your ODP listing hits AOL (1-2 months) you will see a definite rise in traffic.
Thanks again
