h0050dac8c17b.ne.mediaone.net

I'd say that is a home made bot...running on somebody's dial up account.

Hey Jeremy,
How goes it?
The .ne subdomain is Nigeria

After chasing down ½ dozen searches the following concerning mediaone.net or as they are named

MediaOne Express (RoadRunner)
ns1.mediaone.net internet address = 24.128.1.80
NS2.mediaone.net internet address = 24.128.1.81
NS1.MW.mediaone.net internet address = 24.131.1.8

from arin Whois,
a search on 24.128.1.80

Continental Cablevision (CHNMS-HST) NS1.MEDIAONE.NET 24.128.1.80
ServiceCo LLC - Road Runner (NET-ROAD-RUNNER-2) ROAD-RUNNER-2
24.128.0.0 - 24.128.255.255
end of quote.

these are valid IP #'s
24.128.0.0 - 24.128.255.255
whether they are apllicable to Dazz's original inquiry ? Only those specidfic IP's woukld verify that.

try this google search for wordfreqbot [google.com]

You'll note the lack of log file entries...if it was 'googlebot' 'slurp' or even the now defunct(?) architext or sidewinder, it would show up in a few more logs than that.

thought according to the date on the first and second entry, somebody's been using that bot name for a bit. However, given that we're about search engine spider identification in the forum, I think we can clearly say it's nothing to waste your time about.

If it bothers your site, I'd put it in your .htaccess file :) that's where AV and Ink are for me right now...waste of bandwidth.

(added)

Now that you've posted the IP, you might search for that in Google, too. there are no entries for that one :)

I tried searching in google earlier today but only got the 3 results as you said, I was hoping to find something more I have had some strange goings on in my logs just lately and I am trying to sort the good from the bad.

For instance this bot has been crawling one of my sites :

cosmos/0.9_(robot@xyleme.com)

I have emailed the webmaster at xyleme to ask why this bot is crawling my site and using my bandwidth, I am yet to receive a response.

oh well

merry xmas :)

AT&T Broadband Northeast (NET-ATTB-NE-5)
27 Industrial Ave.
Chelmsford, MA 01824
US

Netname: ATTB-NE-5
Netblock: 24.60.0.0 - 24.61.159.255
end of quote

a net search @ Arin on both
net 24.60
net 24.61
obtains NO sub numbers assigned to websites.

These are AT&T users.
Since they fail to idenmtify themselves I would add then to your htaccess for that reason. Iwould go a little farther than
24.60.186.168
and use
deny from 24.60.186.
