What is quite strange is that I normally only see spiders on my site by looking through the access log, I also run Goldstats because it is convenient and doesnt show all the spider action. But over the last couple of days 195.8.179.170 has been showing up big time in both my access log and my Goldstats account. Does anyone know anything about this IP address?

Cheers

Can't tell you much right now. The IP is dead at the moment. The last reversible hop is norweb.uk.insnet.net. The IP seems to be coming out of a HP powered server farm. I think the class C belongs to businessserve.co.uk, but they really have a mix of servers. You could probably start with them.

Thanks for the responses, the entry from my log is as follows:

195.8.179.170 - - [23/Oct/2001:10:44:35 -0500] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 200 16645 "-" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.01; Windows NT 5.0)"

Hope that helps solve the mystery.

Cheers

In the UK "NorWeb" is the name of the North West electricity board. It's now a general purpose utility company, and I believe it's changed it's name (as they all do these days).

Don't know if this is *that* NorWeb. Nor do I know why they should be hitting your site, unless you're in the enegry business
