Has been bugging out for about a month now

Seems like they have IPV4 ranges all over RIPE, split in /24s. M247 of them.

Starting to look like The Planet, and out of control, totally on daily bases.

17 honeypots filled with all kinds of REF spam, just plain junk guest book posts and SQL Injection attempts are on a rise as well.

Get a lot of problem scrapers from those ranges all across Europe. Generally end up blocking by IP range.

The /24 blocks are probably because of the shortage of IPv4 addresses. RIPE ran out of larger blocks already some time ago. But even more stunning are the IPv6 blocks which are mainly /64 and /48. Normally /64 is handed out to individual servers. A /48 block has been assigned to my home connection.

M247 is one of a smallish number of companies that (from my end) appears to specialize in quasi spam. It is spam that shows up primarily via contact forms and offers you a link to "unsubscribe" though you never asked for any of it. Now and then they show up as blocked scrapers, but more than anything I see them as spam efforts via contact forms, being caught and reported via Akismet, both on WP and static html sites.

This is how I first find them:

The easiest is to setup a DB of ASN <=> IP ranges and to block by ASN , all web hosts have their own ASN so it get ride of plenty of "problems" at once.

Huh. Logs say they�ve yet to show their face on anything of mine. Do they request some particular type of content that actually exists on your site? (Specifying �actually exists� because robots certainly don�t make any effort to find out if you have a /wp-admin/ before coming in and asking for it.)

Over the years I�ve had an unending series of what I call �Contact botnets� because the request pattern always includes the Contact page at some point. In fact I�m mildly impressed at their ability to find it. (Hm. If I made an ebook and called its directory /contact/, would it soon be inundated by robots trying to post to it? I should try that.)

Because I'm using Akismet I can make it stop completely but I checked the option to mark it as spam and send me the info. Some days I get half a dozen notifications on a small handful of domains. They are not all from M247 but M247 is amply represented.

I'd bet you would get a significant number of hits with a /contact/ directory. A broken form could be entertaining.

Writing a script would take a few minutes, .config, .htaccess, all of it, then letting it spread over the Net another few.

No, not the script that attacks sites to spread garbage, the script that has all their IP ranges Blocked. Like a server soft, firewall, IP tables level.

This is not nice, then when the time comes to try to take in a few (insert currency here)sesesss. Not impressed.

I will parse these later co combine the /24, unless someone beats me to it :)

I've looked at a few scenarios in my code, specifically querying IP Ranges that are simply reported from global data sets here:

afrinic - ftp://ftp.afrinic.net/pub/stats/afrinic/delegated-afrinic-latest
arin - ftp://ftp.arin.net/pub/stats/arin/delegated-arin-extended-latest
apnic - ftp://ftp.apnic.net/pub/apnic/stats/apnic/delegated-apnic-latest
lacnic -ftp://ftp.lacnic.net/pub/stats/lacnic/delegated-lacnic-latest
ripe - ftp://ftp.ripe.net/ripe/stats/delegated-ripencc-latest

Most of yours are almost all on a Dot, less so are are mine. I don't do it in real time though for these super large ones, I even got some /12s and 11s that dont belong to m247.

For some reason, as I mentioned before, it is on the same level as Planet back in a day... and btw Planet has been beaming as IBM for a while now.

Thanks for those HUGE M247 lists, guys. Appreciated. I've previously been listing them one at a time as they hit.

One observation: some of the /24 ranges are actually larger, though not strictly all M247. They are often part of a GLOBALAXS /22, which I see as just as intrusive, and they are also embedded in other /22 ranges.

GLOBALAXS is a 'toothy' chunk of that list since they lease bunch of these teeth to m724.

I think the initial ipv4 list takes them to the dentist, but is like 480 entries, mostly /24s and...

Give me a bit of time, i will knock out more diligent list...
