I just read a story on notalwaysfunny dot com that made me think of you. It starts with teacher saying that scat means scram or go away (she's thinking of “Scat, cat”) and student pointing out that it also means animal poop. At the end of the whole long thing, it occurred to me that neither of them was familiar with the really essential usage of “scat”. Their loss.

Scat singing was cool when Ella & Louis & Sarah did it, but when I hear all the up-and-coming young singers try to pull it off, it sounds pretty silly to me. But then again, who am I to judge someone's self expression.
