@not2easy, you had the CIDR wrong. Your tool likely just reported the short CIDR range, possibly of the machine your perp came from.

one of the oldest reliable converters out there, been using it for quiet a while as a back up for years now.

Thanks for the kgsoft tool, I have used it online. But the tool is for Windows which I don't use very often. I use the Network Utility tool built in to OSX which claims to get its info from:

I have noticed that it does return different CIDRs depending on which IP in a given range is entered. I do appreciate the corrections, thanks!

A good general calculator for IPs, ranges, subnets etc on linux (and OSX?) is GIP - Internet Protocol Calculator. Designed for gnome but probably works on others.
