Continuation of the Server Farm threads.

This is where we report data center IP ranges as they are discovered or change in the rapidly evolving assigned IP landscape.

A Linode range I had not seen and couldn't find in my files:
LINODE-US (Reg: 2015-04-29)
45.79.0.0 - 45.79.255.255
45.79.0.0/16

Connecting offices and homes to the Internet on technology Ethernet. Installation of home networks. IP-telephony.
Not really a Server Farm. Maybe you just got someone running a bot from home, but thanks for the info; I'll keep an eye on them.

Or, conversely, an office with an infected computer. This is Russia, right?

Well I didn't see the hits, so any guess would be irrelevant (as guesses tend to be anyway :)) but blend27 said these were "scrape attempts" which sounds more like a bot than a script injection (infected computer.) Scraper bots are retrieving data/files which needs to be stored somewhere for later processing. An infected office or home computer is not the ideal place for that.

as an aside:: I don't dispute the bad reputation of Russia and other regions in that part of the world. Crime is the often the result of a people just trying to survive in a hostile, repressive society. However I get a steady stream of valid, human visitors from SEs & forums from Ukraine & Russia so I try not to be reactive simply because of origin. Besides, the women are hot!

Sorry, should have been 89.221.240.0/20 but I can't find the Edit button. :(

Thanks dstiles, that looks correct. I had not researched the breadth of that range. It was more of a knee-jerk reaction to a bot in the midst of scraping. Noticed them right away and rushed to get a block up.

BTW - the edit feature is in the Msg# drop-down.

I can't find the Edit button

It's hidden under the Msg# dropdown with the name "Report Message". It feels silly reporting your own post, but sometimes it's got to be done. ("Yikes! When I said 'blahblah' 62 minutes ago, I meant to say '!blahblah'.")

Yes it is under the Msg# but it is not "Report Message" although when you access Msg# on someone else's post that's all you see. When accessing your own post (which is the only reason you'd edit BTW) you will see both the "Report Message" and the "Edit Message."

(This may sadly be the most important part of my day.)

but it is not "Report Message"

I meant that in practice it's what you have to use, because if you select Edit Message you just get the blahblah about "allowable time to edit post".

I didn't notice before that dstiles's two posts were only two minutes apart, so in fact he could have edited. Usually by the time you discover a typo, you can't. Or at least, ahem, by the time I discover etcetera.

OK I'll bite... how does using the "Report Message" feature edit the post?

BTW - Glad my IP is So Cal so I can edit. Those in APNIC all have signs in the windows "NO MSG"

It summons the Post Editing Fairies, who wave magic wands and Do Stuff after your time limit has run out ;)

Quite likely - I recall using it once or twice in the past - but I browse most sites, including this one, with JS turned off, so no joy.

I've said it before, I'll say it again, and get slapped down again for a technophobe: it's easy enough to run a site without JS, which is easily invoked by some very nasty people, including criminals and governments, to inflict exploits onto computers. The fact I use linux is beside the point. This is fact, not scaremongering. :(

Sorry, off-topic.

@dstiles - not a "slap down" just a FYI :) but that is yesterday's thinking. In some respects, JS has become the preferred 1 source code for the new cloud generation. Microsoft's ChakraCore for the Edge browser & Azure, Google's Adsense & other APIs & many others are now fully supporting & built on a newer core platform of server/user JS including Node.JS. [webmasterworld.com...]

So if you are building web sites that are relevant to today's users, you may want to use today's technology. (I take that back... I guess it was a slap down - ooops!)
