Interesting... sorta the same idea DirectHit had, but from a more well thought out perspective. Rather than tracking and using click popularity for ranking (if everyone visits it, it must be good), these guys actually want to get large numbers of internet users to 'rank' the sites, and use the average of the individual ranking votes.

My problem with it: I don't think they'll be able to get a critical mass of participants large enough to make the evaluations accurate, or important in any way.

I got visited by this yesterday. Is it a spider or is it a surfer who is ranking my pages ? It took a couple of pages that are listed in the ODP.

Came round here today also.

Check out Brett's post in research topics [webmasterworld.com] which may explain more.

A bunch of my client's sites were visited by it yesterday and today. I went to the site - looks like a searing ripoff of Google. (Maybe they're in a partnership?) I see several client's pages have been cached for some time now - so I guess it visited before and I didn't notice.

Going through some older sites tonight adding a global "noarchive" tag. These cached pages are a total drag. Ugly, too. Some of these 'bots make you feel like you have ants in your pants. It's a full time job (understatement) to keep the 'undesirables' at bay.
