Project Honey Pot info shows 600-plus hits and counting, not including mine, from:

184.105.140.157 [projecthoneypot.org...]
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux; en-US) AppleWebKit/532.4 (KHTML, like Gecko) Qt/4.6.3 Safari/532.4

2n:32:13 /this_page_should_not_exist.fake
2n:32:13 /
2n:32:13 /

robots.txt? NO
Graphics? NO
JavaScript? NO

Some say that odd URI marks a Google 'Quality Rater': [webmasterworld.com...]
Some don't: [chrisfaron.com...] (scroll to Comments)

Just my (bad?) luck if it was: I've had that IP blocked for almost a year, ever since I was visited by --

184.105.140.130 [projecthoneypot.org...]
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux; en-US) AppleWebKit/532.4 (KHTML, like Gecko) Qt/4.6.3 Safari/532.4

-- and seeing HE, did this:

## 11-06-10: HURRICANE ELECTRIC: 184.104.0.0 - 184.105.255.255

RewriteCond %{REMOTE_ADDR} ^184\.(104|105)\. [OR]

(Aside: I didn't get into the old "Qt/4.6.3" string bit.)

I've had HE blocked for a long time. If goog uses it they are out of luck with my server (and if they object, tough!).

RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} linux [NC,OR]

takes care of that one and many more.

@ wilderness

Just a FYI - I have a significant amount of legit users coming with linux build of Firefox:
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:7.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/7.0.1

Another popular UA is from the native Android browser:
Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.3.3; en-us; HTC-A9192/1.0 Build/GRI40) AppleWebKit/533.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/533.1

Google Web Preview is Linux, too:

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/534.51 (KHTML, like Gecko; Google Web Preview) Chrome/12.0.742 Safari/534.51

Thoughts on the Quality Rater thing? Or ever spotted that odd URI?

Aside: SERPs for this_page_should_not_exist.fake show a surprising number of sites plugging that into all manner of titles and pages. (They look awfully let's-game-G to me.)

Are they adding the files/keywords deliberately or is G making assumptions and reporting the 404/200 or 404/301 it gets as "real"? Wouldn't actually put it beyond them to report 404 as "real". :(

<aside> I run firefox or Opera on linux..( 3 machines ) for internet., including posting here ..

The only windows I run on the web is XP pro with IE6 ,7,8 ( one box ) for testing my sites to make sure they display OK..

( and 1 laptop that runs XP "severely nlited" runs on a toshiba portége 7010c celeron II and 64 megs RAM ;-) to be able to use the BBC iplayer to listen to radio 4 )

Offline I have 1 machine running vista ulti "tweaked" via vlite ..and 4 machines running win7 ulti ( the vista box goes to 7 ulti next week )..and until autodesk and adobe make software that runs on linux, that is how it will stay..

OS agnostic..but don't block linux please..:)

@dstiles, re "Are they adding the files/keywords..." --

Are you talking to me? (A little hard to tell in this noisy room!) If you are talking to me: I think the jury's still out that the OP's HE hits were related to G at all. Then again, if you're not talking to me:

(mimics Roseanne Roseannadanna)

"Nevermind."

: )

Sorry, pfui: yes, you. :)

I was referring to your "fake page" aside.
