Are all Kindles (still) run from/through Amazon-contracted servers?

We've talked about Kindle before --

[webmasterworld.com...]
[webmasterworld.com...]

-- and I just saw this UA string --

Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; en-US) AppleWebKit/528.5+ (KHTML, like Gecko, Safari/528.5+) Version/4.0 Kindle/3.0 (screen 600x800; rotate)

-- hailing from a ".nyc.res.rr.com" account referred from a G search.

If Kindles only access the Web courtesy of Amazon/sub-contractor servers, maybe that hit was via the "Kindle for the Web" beta feature? [amazon.com...] Or maybe the UA was faked? Dunno.

Thoughts?

If they use the AWS IP pool the Kindle owners will be shocked at how many webmasters block them
