Beats me. And what's with ASCII in strings? First Apple, now -- Google. Or is this more Apple?

Goopple I guess, but we would never know...

We got hammered by Level 3 ranges last year(that one in particular) with 'Java/++' UA. I remember just nuking the entire ../14 range for 2 month or so.

You have to be careful blocking L3, as they are now 'mixing' corporate internet and small ISP leased connections into their ranges. Their WHOIS data on these sub-blocks ranges from specific to useless.

I blocked one of my best friends trying to get to one of my sites from work the first time out... :)

according to the application brief description is an open source search box that allows searching the computer and net. In other words a another toolbar perhaps someone or something used to access your server?

The most efficient way I have, is to have a form for new visitors before entering the site and force them to press a button or an equivalent human id method. It does not generate false positives. The cons are the spiders don't like it even you accommodate them with a whitelist.
