Gator still a threat?

Wondering whether it's still prudent to deny Gator IP ranges, or have they reformed or died?

These are what I have:

63\.197\.87\.
64\.152\.73\.
204\.8\.(16[89]¦17[01])\.

Anyone seen them lately? Any other IP ranges?

keyplr,
Gator previously spidered under three different bot names; Diamondbot, HTMLParser and ClariaBot.

Today Claria doesn't even name their software's "Product" on their website, rather "Technology".

The tool would best be described as a content filter, however much more.

The IP ranges still seem to be allocated to Gator, thus I'm assuming the company in another shape or name exists today.

Yeah, I also have the UAs Diamondbot, HTMLParser and ClariaBot denied, thanks Don.

I'm just trying to clean out some dead wood from my .htaccess. All it does it get larger and larger. I never see 75% of the treats I've blocked so I was wondering if some of them still exist or not. Better careful than sorry I guess

I hear ya ;)
"Practically speaking", it's a good idea to even give long denied IP ranges a chance to see if the "masses per say" were unjustly denied as the result of a few offenders.

If Murphy's Law taught you anything?
The very next day after removing a UA or IP?
It'll appear in your logs ;)

HTMLParser?

I banned filtrbox (72.47.203.*) for this UA clear back in October.

mcneely,
The three UA's that keyplr and I mentioned go back as early as 2003.

I was refering to the Jan 28 post though, in that, yes, I have seen htmlparser, "lately".

Anything that Gator was up to clear back in 2003 had long since been denied. Htmlparser was not associated with Gator, however, at the time, to my knowledge. And, as far as I know, the latest, somewhat rogue, instance of htmlparser, came in from filtrbox.
