Interestingly, Ask has now posted a recommendation that you check rDNS [about.ask.com] on their robot info page. So I can only assume these requests on non-resolving IP addresses are not from Ask.

I'm not suprised though. Even Googlebot crawls from addresses that have no revdns, and they too tell us to verify their bots with the same method.
More specifically the following IP Address's starting in appearing to be ask in 2005.
