When Scooter/3.2 hits my news website ( I believe this is AltaVista) it seems to hit it very hard and can slow site access considerably for several minutes - is this a common problem?

Googlebot, on the other hand, uses a more gentlemanly leisurely method. Google drops by off and on throughout the day and does not hammer the website like Scooter.

Do any of you find scooter such a nuisance that you feel its worthwhile to ban it.

Thank you in advance,
Ron

I have had a huge increase in visits from Scooter in the last days, but not to an extent of slowing down my server. I have tolerated it because I hope it will translate into good traffic later from AltaVista.

I had that problem too. Well, I don't think it really slowed down my server, but it got 3000+ pages in one day.

Athough Ask spider is even worse, it got 14,000 pages in one night!

For me, it's the opposite. Scooter always goes at a snail's pace usually at least a couple minutes between each page request. What Googlebot and his buddies do in an hour takes Scooter about a week.

It used to be like that, but lately Scooter has geared up considerately.
