Are you Bot or not?

I saw this User-Agent "P.Arthur 1.1" from 210.87.251.40. It asked for two resources, in all-lowercase. Got a 301 for both, redirecting it to the correct ones. It followed one of the redirects but not the other.

No CSS, images, etc.

Any idea what it is, and whether it's being used for evil?

Welcome to WebmasterWorld Gopi Sundaram :)

Most likely a new one.

I Googled: P.Arthur 1.1 "P.Arthur 1.1" [google.com] and the first listing one shows this P.Arthur 1.1 categorized as "Platforms ...". The only others listed are Asian sites.

To be sure, someone will weigh in with additional information.

Or, at least I thought they would.

P.Arthur 1.1 visited me a little while ago by 202.82.17.118 attempting to scarf 12 pre-selected files. They also made the attempt using all lower-case.

This thing created over a million sessions in about 5 hours. We're blocking it now.

Ouch!

Kinda makes you wonder just how far we will have to go (in the future) in order to protect what is ours.

We started seeing this bot on one of our sites a couple of days ago. It's crawling at about the same pace as Slurp or Ask Jeeves right now. Anyone have any idea what it is? I searched Google for the bot ID, but only found a few messages here in the forum.

I also could not find any information on this bot, so it's banned until I find out more. These bots should have information more readily available to webmasters such as an information website url in the UA instead of just a name.

Just got it yesterday, from IP 210.177.255.41, resolved to ns7.imsbiz.com nameserver in Hong Kong. Got into a spider trap very fast, so it's not that smart.

Just got a visit from P.Arthur 1.1 @ 210.177.255.42

Anyone know what this bot is trying to accomplish?

I'll add one to the IP's already posted:

post 10: 210.177.255.43

I have not had any problems sofar. The traffic i see does not need to be spidering - yesterday four files in two directories in eight hours. No referrer info, that's the only odd thing.
