I have this string in the logfile for a site:

64.68.87.41 - - [14/Jul/2003:02:59:19 +0100] "GET /robots.txt HTTP/1.0" 200 25 "-" "Mediapartners-Google/2.1 (+http://www.googlebot.com/bot.html)"

A previous thread [webmasterworld.com] seems to suggest that this bot is related to adwords/adsense and this explains its visits. However, the site in question does not and has never used adwords or adsense, so I'm puzzled by the visit and different u/a.

Why would Google be sending an adwords bot to this site (which incidentally, is incomplete and has never been promoted)?

The bot only requested robots.txt, but the file was banning all bots anyway ;)

Toolbar baby :) , failing that it could be "that" adsense tool thats has been mentioned a few times.

I have however seen this with toolbar lately...

I don't have the toolbar :) and the chances of someone knowing the url and running a check on it (or are running the toolbar and visit the site) are pretty slim (2 visits yesteday, including Google ;)). Guess it must be the only explanation though.

Toolbar causing bot visits sounds pretty interesting by the way ;)
