Howdy,
My main site has been under attack from an utterly stupid/evil "spider" today.
So far the spider has made 34,793 requests; 16,219 of those were errors!
It has been requesting upto 10-15 pages per second.

Id Information:
IP: 163.143.46.59
Name: std2ss10.u-aizu.ac.jp
Idents: "Univ. of Aizu Web Crawler" and "Java/1.4.1-beta"

You have a need or desire for APNIC (far-east) traffic?

163.143.0.0 - 163.143.255.255
netname: UAIZUNET
descr: imported inetnum object for THEUNI-2
country: JP

If not?

deny from 163.143.
SetEnvIf User-Agent ^Java keep_out (or whatever you use instead of keepout)
SetEnvIf User-Agent Aizu keep_out

I've already sent a Cease & Desist email and am now preparing the followup fax and snail mail notices.
My site, by its nature, gets a lot of traffic from every part of the world.

As do both of mine.
I just don't let it all in having decided what is going to be beneficial to me.
The APNIC traffic was the first to go.
