Found this, but do you know wich date it all started? When Mr. Page started his BackRub project? My own guess would be as early as around -94. Tabke or anyone?

"BackRub
BackRub is a web crawler which is designed to store the connection graph for the web. In other words BackRub stores which pages every web page links to. Currently we are developing techniques using this link data to improve web search engines as well as understand the structure of the web.

thanks excellent! Just couldnīt find a specific date when he/they actually started drawing on the project. If the first documentation turned up in, from what I can see, mars -94 it would be likely to believe it all started even earlier?

Found that afterwards mack.
Some interesting reading there.

Not sure how it applies to our everyday application in this forum?

Unless it's a subtle hint, which another using was emphasizing about us keeping an open mind of ever changing technology and how everybody has too start somewhere.

So should we automatically assume that every "Zao" who comes along not immediately providing an application "in use" of their collected data, that they are the next google and leave our barnyard doors open for their spiders? Partially finfing their research in the process? Hogwash!
All in an effort to improve the web? More hogwash!

Gee! Aren't I just full of hog ;)

A bunch of students along with professors and staff were not working at google for the fun of it! The students were gaining degrees and experience to enhance their future in their selected career. At whose expense?

The university's or the funded grants?
Who reaped the rewards?
