Is this a spambot? It browsed my guestbook directory which is disallowed in robots.txt.

This says what it is [msdn.microsoft.com], but it doesn't reveal anything about the folks using it.

MFC is yet another library from M$ which makes it easy for just about anybody to open web pages almost as easily as local files.

For legitimate purposes, I guess this is good. But it's also a great tool for bandwidth-sucking e-mail address harvesters and content stealers.

You know how whole sections of WebmasterWorld are dedicated to "SEO" - Search Engine Optimization? Well, I've see this Spider ID forum growing fast, and soon we here will need a specialty title, such as "Web site Bandwidth Defense Specialists", or "Web site Content Defense Specialists" - Maybe just "Web site Defense Specialists" to cover both? So, how about WDS for short?

I support the academic concept of the web as a free and open information space. But unfortunately, the potential for abuse is high, and the abuse is starting to cost money in terms of time spent deleting spam and avoiding server bandwidth overruns.

Oh well, my old career in hi-tech is winding down due to the economy, and I could use a new one...
