Not the Googlebar. Somebody read your site using a cell phone. No, really, they did.

"WAP" is the Wireless Access Proctol used by PCS phones to access the "wireless web". The WAP web sites and browsers use non-HTML languages like HDML and WML.

Google has a WAP version of their engine that searches the HTML web and translates HTML sites into WML. (So those IP addresses should be Google's, because it's Google's machine making the actual HTTP request.) Google's got more details at [google.com...]

(You know what the really sad part is? I actually taught myself HDML one afternoon, many years ago. It's a cute langauge. Organized information into "decks" instead of pages. Pity it didn't catch on.)

hey mbauser,
I don't doubt your explanation.
However it is an absurd waste of their time and my bandwith.
The page accessed contains over 1650 words besides html and links.
Over 10,000 characters besides html and links.

I don't believe a cell phone exists which can digest that much?
My son has a xxx brand which is limited to 267 characters with spaces and puntcuation included.

I added the two IP 255 groups to deny. It's absurd IMO.

Read your URL Bret. Many thanks.

I'm NOT about to conform some 300 pages much of which contains exrensive text to a wap format. Or even create alternative pages.

NOT even for Google :-(
This is one technology I hope stays in the far east. I already have many of those denied already.

Get Opera browser and visit: [wap.google.com...] (must be Opera as IE/NN are incompatable).

At the bottom of every page the Google proxy displays is a link to more content - you can scroll down the page that way with wap. It's pretty zippy too, since Google caches the page the first time and just feeds that to the user.
