some seo places offer a gaurantee that you will see results in 7 days... how can that be if it takes a month to see any changes show up in google?

You can see results pretty quickly if you pay for spidering and submission.

I knew about pay per search ... but I did not know about pay to spider...
Neither of those things apply to google though right?
You just have to wait... and it can take over a month to see changes show up
right?

I saw a very neat example of a "guarantee" today. In the small print, they specify that to fulfill the guarantee, they need only achieve a top 10 posn for 1 phrase out of 5 you specify, for 10 out of 40 SEs. The list of 40 include several flavours of MSN, AOL, Iwon, Hotbot etc, so coughing up for a cheap Inktomi listing, and a bit of blind luck would almost certainly do it with almost no effort on their part

Be aware of these guarantees, we fell for the same thing that tall troll mentioned. We sell party supplies, and when we built our site, we offered a calendar, and email reminders. If you entered your email address, and an event date, we would send you an email to remind you of the event. Well, we changed our metatags based off of what the SEO company suggested, and suprise, we were in the top ten... for the keywords 'birthday party reminders'. Where were we for 'party supplies'? No where to be seen.

Inktomi has a "pay to spider" option, as it would be, available at Position Tech(http://www.positiontech.com). A paid inclusion there gets you included withing 48 hrs, and re-spidered every 48hrs for a year. I use this one all the time and get great results with it.

Alta Vista has basically the same thing, only its re-spidered every week for 6 mos.
(I believe Fast/All the Web has a similar program as well)

Keep in mind that these services don't seem to really "spider" your whole site, it's just the page you submit.
In any case, they are all great ways to get in these SE's fast, and if you have the cash to spend, I'd reccommend using them

Also these guarantees play the percentages. If you do 200 sites and miss the guarantee on 3%, and you make more profit than the cost of the refund of 3% then your ahead by offering the guarantee.
