Is it good to add the 1-800 number to the
description?
Should I write toll free?
or call?

I really don't see the purpose of putting the 1-800 number in the description, or the title. The only reason I can see doing it is if your company name has excellent branding, and the company name includes 1-800 in it, like 1-800 Flowers. If this is the case, then people will probably end up searching for it and then you may benefit from having it in the description and title.

For Google purposes it won't matter what you have in the description tag.

Have to agree with agerhart here.

Generally, users will want to click through to get the info/check your site out first, rather than call from your SERP listing. Especially if they're already online on their only phone line.

If you get to the point where your brand is really known and people prefer to contact/order over the phone, it could benefit. I think those cases are rare, though.

Also, it is very easy to filter for a search engine. You don't know how they might feel about it. It could bite back.
