The URL is in my profile.

They are placing the site in a 100% frameset. There are links within the no-frames tag to standard html pages. When you try and view the HTML pages, you are redirected back to main URL. If you search for the keywords in Google, for example, "final fantasy cheats" the cached page is blank.

What is more, the link in Google redirects to the flash home page, as opposed to the doorway page.

How is this achieved? Are the doorway pages being cloaked?

I see nothing to indicate cloaking of the doorway pages. When I placed the links from the no-frames tag into my browser I got a different page with another 100% frameset. Not only are the "doorway" pages in a no-frames tag, but they are also in a no-script tag as well. The cache from google has nothing to display because of those tags. I don't think that cloaking is being used here.

It's pretty funny that you mention this of all sites. At the recent Search Engine Strategies Conference in Dallas the SEO for this site spoke in one of the seminars. He spoke in the seminar for case studies I believe of successes SEOs have had. His example was this site.

He said his challenge was coming up on top for this movie site, despite the fact there were already 1000 game sites targeting this very same keyword. So he had a huge challenge!

He said he did not use cloaking, and that he used all frames, with very strong text based no frames tags. The no frames tag is where they get their good results, especially since the site is mostly in flash. I found this discussion very interesting, and this guy did a great job with the site.

Other interesting notes:

$75,000 online marketing budget, $5400 of it for search engine marketing, yet search engines account for 25% of all online traffic. Hmmmmm....

They didn't worry about linkpop, they knew they'd pick it up.

Thanks guys

I didn't look closely enough at the doorways. They are indeed all framed 100%

Obviously this technique is effective, although I felt for sure Google would see it as spam as it essentially delivers the same page content many times.

What are everyones views on this?

I use noframes to provide seo for a large, dynamically generated site. The noframes content repeats itself when pages are within the same grouping which varies from 15 to 150 pages, depending on the category. (The site is around 4500 pages overall.) The dynamic content does directly relate to the noframes content, even if it is repetitive, so I don't see a problem. My site has been up 2 years now, no bans or rebukes from the SEs. BTW, the cache for any page in this site is also blank.

That that sounds like a sound strategy RC. I have a few questions for you:

1) How does the site do in Google?
2) How competitive is the market?

It's a travel guide.

I'm not side-stepping, but a direct answer is hard because of the size of the site and the way SEO is deployed. It works well in Google, like the results of the above flash example indicate. You should be able to compete with the best of them, though my instincts say that static flat pages hold a slight edge over noframes seo. In my case, each of the 4000 town pages has its own, unique competition. Because of the size and the fact that it's dynamically generated, I have to optimize by region or category and everything is handled in the templates. I can't pick one page and optimize it.
