I was wondering why this might happen. The category isn't overly competitive, and there hasn't been any new entries in the past week, yet a site has dropped from top 5 to mid 40's. I know click-thrus form part of the picture, but is there any other factor that may have caused this?

Yahoo has been the topic of many discussions lately, here is one of them: Yahoo Algorithm Change [webmasterworld.com]

It seems that when Yahoo introduced the new Overture listings, they changed their algorithm a bit. Some people saw their sites drop and some people saw them climb.

Thanks Agerhart

Is it your opinion that a new algo has been implemented or that the existing algo is being changed frequently for competitive categories?

Or both?

I haven't seen too much evidence that points to an all out algo change in competitive categories.

I have one site that went from a #2 listing to a #1 listing, but I think that this was a result of click-popularity and possibly the fact that the #1 listing was only a one page site.
