What is the process of reciprocal linking?

Once you email a webmaster of another site requesting a reciprocal link where should you put that site's link? Is it ok to put it deep in the site where it can't easily be found and just submit that page to the engines? What is the best process?

I would say that its not wise to bury the link but rather include it on a links page which is linked off from your index page. By burying the link, you run the risk of insulting the webmasters of sites you have reciprocal link agreements with - they are going to think, 'whats the point in having a link on your site if nobody can find it'.

As far as submitting the page to the SE's, you can bank on it that your linking partners will do this for you ;)

I agree with others who have suggested that it's as important to have quality outgoing links on your site as it is incoming links. Don't bury them.
