Hello All,

Yahoo indexes all the paid sites under :Alphabetical: Heading.

How to come up in "MOST POPULAR SITES" heading.

Any help can be appreciated.

Thanx in advance.

Savvy,

I am not 100% on this.....but here goes:

I would think that it is a mixture of things:

1) Link pop
2) How many visitors and hits you get

Straight from Yahoo:

What is the "Most Popular Sites" feature?
In some Yahoo! categories, you'll notice a "Most Popular Sites" section. This area features the sites that are currently most popular among Internet users. The section will change and update as new sites are added to the category, and as others become more popular or less popular with users.

Hey Savvy

I believe this is directly related to the amount of link popularity. I have a couple of sites which have achieved the most popular heading in a very very competitive category. One of them was given no description and certainly didn't pull more traffic than other sites in the category. The only thing they have going for them is that they were both linked up with about 30 sites I have which are listed in DMOZ and rank well in Google.

Interesting that yahoo does that, but also found that the description is critical, if somehow you can get multiple occurances of targetted keyphrase's, that usually does the trick, unless what the site represents, is riding on the back of massive companies, then it is very hard work to get above them.

Anyone else got anymore incite? I'm more curious about this now that I'm looking at it. :)

me too

I think the editors have some say in this - combined with click pop - doubt whether link pop is a factor (not in a directory).

I would guess that the editors check the sites link popularity in various other engines when evaluating which to give a most popular listing.

Many of the other sites in the category I'm competing in are more spam than anything also. So site quality in the eyes of the editor is probably also a factor.

noticing today that many business and shopping categories no longer have the "most popular" listing - interesting, because it falls around the same time Yahoo switched the BizEx price to $299.

non-commercial cats still have "most popular"

Yeah I'm seeing the same skiguide. Also the categories that are keeping most popular listings seem to be showing different results.
