Is it a good idea to link to high ranked websites and will it affect your own website ranking anyhow?

Hey wmuser,
Yes, It is good to go towards the higher websites. The reason behind this is because these websites have huge page rankings and the bots travel through page ranks more often and look for more sites to go through.

wmuser, who you link to says a lot about what kind of site you are running. Linking to spammy, sleazy sites says as much about you as linking to high quality sites, from the SE's point of view. Linking to high quality, on-topic sites gives the SE's additional information.

It is certainly true that linking to a high ranked website is a good idea. Almost every webmaster who know this fact, sends an email to that website whose rank is PR4+. However, as anti-spam mechanism is set on the server, owner of the website will not receive such mails in large quantity. As mentioned by other collegue on this page, it is also a fact that to whom you are linking is also an important issue.
