Hello, Im new to this site but already have found some useful info here. My problem is, i have noticed that some of my keyword phrases are ranked in the top ten search results, except Google still cant figure them out, but i am still getting low traffic results. I have been building up my link exchange now for about a year or so and optimizing my pages with keywords and phrases without spamming them and have also added very informational content to my site. I have been studying for sometime now and just do not know what i am missing here. Is the only way to increase traffic to my site is to pay for it? I will continue to read these great articles here but any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Hey burton62462, welcome to WebmasterWorld!

How old is your site, approximately? These days it can take many months to over a year for G to start to rank your site for its main kw's. Depends a lot on how credible and noteworthy and unique their algo's think the site is.

Also, building only a bunch of recip links won't help much, at least not until you also have a good number of quality, hopefully relevant, one way inbound links.

Thank u caveman for the welcome, My site is a little over a year old, maybe a year and a half. I noticed in an article on this site about site getting penalized for links from Pharmacies & Casino sites. I do have a few of those linking to mine. When i first started my link exchange program i was linking to just about anyone who would link to me and have learned that, like you said in order for linking to work, they have to be "site related" and now am more leary about what sites link to mine. Should i rid my site of those links from Pharmacies and casinos? I dont have many and do not really care if i get rid of them. Once again, thank you for your input i really appreciate it.

If you are in Top Ten that is the first page for S/Es other than Google but get low traffic, then maybe (I said maybe) you should reconsider your choice of Search Terms.

Are you targetting what is actualy being asked or what you believe will be asked. At the outset, it is important to select a list of possible search phrases and with a little research, refine this list down to the terms that will be entered into a search box.

In my opinion the low traffic might be due t the low SERP's position in google since most internet traffic comes from there. and of the popularity of your keyword
