How can other sites affect mine?

If a certain website has hidden text and/or links, can I get into trouble with search engines if that site links to mine? I have heard that even affiliating yourself with a "sandboxed" site can get you in trouble. Could an inbound link from a site like that get mine in trouble?

It's who you link to that is more likely to cause a problem.
Unless you operate in a very agressive area then nobody can, or is likely to, damage your site.

You have to do that yourself

You won't get in trouble for other sites linking to you, as you have no control over what other webmasters do as far as linking goes.

The problem arises when you link back to a bad neighborhood.
