If you were going to use a domain to direct visitors to the main domain, how would you do it?

I am working on one right now, ironically, and I think the best way to do it would be to apply everything.

Before everyone screams at me, I will explain what I mean.

I mean, I think that if you are not sure what to do, and what works, then maybe the best angle is to try out everything on seperate pages and see what works the best.

Right now, I am doing a boatload of relevant, on theme links with descriptions to go with them. With this, I am putting a list, but in a sense it is almost like a directory, of the links to the site I am trying to promote.

I would keep the site themed. Only link to pages that are relevant. I would also try new things, like what we were talking about HERE [webmasterworld.com]

I would definitely stay away from redirects and cloaking, as I don't think that you need cloaking if you are going to be using a seperate site to promote the original site.

Most important, I would try to have a HUGE amount of SE-friendly, keyword rich content

My simple 2c worth.

Organise content into themes to match the main domain.

For each theme, create
1) a parent page in the root of the doorway domain
2) sets of child pages containing targeted content in sub-domains or sub-directories of the doorway domain.

Get the children to point to the parent, the parent to the target content in the main domain. (No redirection of course)

The downside of this structure is the 3 clicks from entry to arrival at the target domain. (Cloak all the children to point to the parent and you get 2 clicks, if you cloak straight to the target domain you do it in 1 click – cloaking isn’t my strength so perhaps someone else will contribute.)
