would it be fair to say that links to your site coming from the same ip block (not just ip address) would be ignored by a search engine? this would effect everyone sharing say an ip block....

i.e a site at 140.34.4.24 links to 140.34.2.28

does anyone have evidence to suggest that the engines take things so far as to ignore this inbound link, or is common opinion that the engines are only concerned with single ips being shared?

Welcome to the board mnet.

We've been back and forth on this one for two years.

First it was shared ip's (virtual hosting), were very bad with search engines getting confused by them. Then search engines figured out how to use http 1.1 and it was ok again. Then we noticed search engines not only banning single ip's, but entire c blocks as well.
It's clear they have the tech in place to deal with entire ip ranges. They can also view things from a link web map perspective down to the c-block detail (eg: if mega spammer size Z has two thousand links from Sites X and Y - then sites X and Y must be spammers too). So...the smart money would say yes, yes they can ignore links from cblocks - whether they do, is open for debate (I think they do).
