I just found out after a month of hard work I am ranked 1 on msn search, 12 on google, 1 on aesop, 1 on something else....hard work does pay off!

yeah...i "jumpstarted" my site by hitting the biggest forums and posting it up on there. Also these are useful websites to help your website:

one thing make sure your website has meta tags. also submit them to the search engines only when you have a lot of content.

just dont give up (as i wont, may be ranked but revenue has not increased much) and keep trying. hopefully in one month you will be saying the same as me.

televisiontalk - You're giving some very bad advice.

Meta tags have very little to do with ranking on the major engines.

As for submitting to the search engines, note that the submission forum at WebmasterWorld has been deprecated. It's not necessary to submit to the major search engines any more. The engines will find you via inbound links to your site. If you don't have any inbound links, chances are that you wouldn't rank anyway.

And dropping links on forums like this one are likely to make you a very unpopular fellow (I see you've made a good start here), and they aren't likely to help you rank on anything competitve.

Im sorry, but I have to disagree with robert on this point. Meta tags and description tags and search engine submission are still very valuble. Doing all of the following will give your site a +1up on not having done it. Dont be discouraged by others telling you that something is not good for SEO purposes. The engines were designed to produce mass search results and there is an algorythm in place from day one that hasnt changed its basic functions. Keep with meta tags, description tags, search engines submission, site map submission and so on. Just know that your major focus on your site will be content, so build your site around that content and the keywords in which you are targeting. Targeting the specific keyword area will include the necessary SEO practice which also include meta tags. Every bit helps, and every bit is standard practice to a clean and healthy site. Once the basic needs and functinos are finished with...continue with your content but never forget the old techniques. The the basic functions that started google and other major search engines and it will be the basic functions that continue to run them. They just add more options and changes in their algorythm to better their product, but the basics will always stand.

I too disagree with Robert. Even though inbound links with the proper anchor text are the most valuable possessions to have for getting good rankings, one should not forget on-page SEO factors too. If the competition is neck-n-neck in inbound links then on-page SEO will surely help in getting a good ranking anytime. Having said this remember that algorithms are written by ppl and hence they give more importance to relevant websites linking to you, just like you would give more weightage to a suggestion given by Bill Gates about Operating systems, so do the search engines. So try and get as many inbound links as possible. Forum posting will surely get you links and for me.... every single link is valuable - atleast its better than having no links at all.
