If you intend to hang in there as an SEO, client relations is an important piece. One component of that: You need to be able to educate clients about what SEO can and cannot do, and what are possible upsides and downsides, etc.

In this case your client needs to know that with all of the SE's and especially G, there are no instant results anymore. Closest is MSN, which is by far doing the best job of reflecting short term changes in short timeframes. Y's update sequences seem to vary and currently I think we're witnessing one of the longest periods between important Y updates that I can recall. And as for G, there are constant movements in the SERP's, but new site launches, and the impact of new links, often take many months to start showing up in the SERP's.

How about a dmoz.org listing? Do you have one? Have you at least applied for one?

Get inbound links from important sites - for instance, a link from the front page of news.bbc.co.uk would get you crawled fairly rapidly :-)
