A friend has told me a trick I can do that will help get me a better PR rating. I don't know if it is a bad trick that will get my website banned by Google.

The trick is called the meta search engine push. This what you are supposed to do. Apparently you can do it for all the metacrawler search engines but I will use alltheweb as an example. Lets says my website is called example.com

1) Register example.com with alltheweb search engine
2) once you are sure your website is registerd with alltheweb go to Google. Go to the add URL page.
3) Instead of registering example.com register www.alltheweb.com/urlinfo?q=http://example.com&c=web

Would the above trick risk geting my website banned?

Google still has an add-URL page?

As the target page on alltheweb will have 0 PR then there is no benefit of doing that.

It's an inbound link from an orphan page, not worth your effort.

If you are in doubt about any method, then stay away from it, because chances are that yes it will get you banned eventually.
