Can someone explain how to get your site ranked highly please

Hi I am looking for ways to get my site ranked highly in most search engines.

I have seen some companies that offer this service. They charge a fortune too.

Is there a way how I can selp promote my site and get it in all the major search engines. And generate plenty of incoming traffic.

I have a limited budget. And what money I do have I want to invest in advertising that will generate return.

I can wait if there is something workable for free.

There are no 'fast' routes to success or 'secrets'.

Ideally you want some kind of portal site, that keeps visitors returning time after time. Then you can charge advertising fees.

Whatever you go with, the idea needs to be something that 'does the work' for someone else. Er, people don't like to waste time, nor do they like thinking or making much effort to find something. But whatever you choose to base a site on, you'll need money to promote it. Creating content is all fine and dandy, but you need that tremendously popular site first to build the content around, and it must be done in such a way to NOT look like a sales site. Yellow and black writing and hypnotic pitches will turn people away - and your idea has to keep them if you ever want to make money off the web.

Okay, what I will tell you is Don't ever ever chase fast cash or secrets or free advertising - it simply doesn't exist and the proof is in abundance on the web.

Authority sites are popular mainly because people search for information, but every site 'thinks' it's the bees knees, and this the problem - competition!

You want to hold the monopoly on a niche, with the idea of appealing to an audience and keeping them at your site. It has to be interesting enough to keep exisiting visitors/members while attracting new traffic. But have no illusions - it's going to cost you dearly in time, but more in money at the start anyway. Starting a business is such a complex topic and the website industry is too vast to cover on a forum, people study for degrees and professional diplomas and yet still wouldn't give it a go - it's such a risk!

A lot of circular ..vote for this site ..get your genuine ( insert you choice of get you into serious trouble ) pron link sites would have to disagree with you ..

most people will waste their time ..almost indefinitely ..you just have to make the fact that they are doing so not too obvious ..and appeal to their more base instincts ..

Most MFA sites are constructed using this principle ..including those using "warez" and other illegal "come ons" ..examples can be found by typing almost any "prohibited" search term ..into "G" ..most results will be found to be running adsense..even if they are not actually offering the "prohibited" items ..they and their adwords/adsense will say they are ..

"ads for illegal material" pays ...unfortunately ..since.. when was adsense launched?:(

It has been my experience that there is almost always something workable for free. Free simply takes more time, usually, and time is money.
Many people will tell you that you need to spend money to have a succesfull site, most of these people simply were not able to figure out how to do it without spending money, that does not mean it can't be done.
I'm with cavemans suggestion and also I think you may find this thread of some value if you are promoting a business site [webmasterworld.com ]

Absolutely - inbound links. Lots of them. Create unique inspiring top-drawer quality content and people will link to it.
