Keyword URL Question

Hello all. I was just wondering if I purchased url's that had keywords in them related to my site and then had those redirect to my site - do Search Engines frown upon that?

For example, if I sold running shoes online and my domain was fastfeet.com, would it help me to also purchase adidasrunningshoes.com, nikerunningshoes.com... and have them redirect to my site?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Personally I stay away from domains with brand names in them. Too much potential hassle from the manufacturers, potentially. Plus, what gain would you expect from those names? Minimal type in traffic from names like that, and just having a domain name pointing to a site has no value.

Some people buy and point close variations of their domains to their site, FWIW. Unless there's a lot of type in traffic though, there's no point.

You could build a related site for each of the other domain(s)...but in that case you're into a whole other set of pro's and con's.

Wouldn't having those important keywords in my url get those urls listed very high. If someone was searchging for "nike running shoes" for example, chances are my fastfeet.com url won't come up right away but if I just so happened to own nikerunningshoes.com wouldn't that come up high because the url has the exact keywords that the user was searching? Then, if they clicked on that link, it would redirect them to my site - fastfeet.com

No. It takes a LOT more than kw's in a domain name to rank well. In fact, kw's in a domain probably count for very little these days. Even in the old days, it was never THAT easy. ;-)
