Helps or hurts?

I'm considering displaying RSS feed on the main page of my site. The feed is relevant to the site's theme. I wonder what impact the RSS feed may have on the SE rankings. Similar questions have already been asked on the RSS forum of WebmasterWorld and other forums on the net, but the answers were not conclusive and sometimes contradictory. Here are the possible pros & cons that have been mentioned.

Possible pros:

- Relevant content updated daily (assuming SEs like frequent updates)

Possible cons:

- More outgoing links draining PageRank off the page
- Duplicate content (? if RSS is only the small part of the page, can it be considered as a duplicate content).

In general, any SE benefits from displaing RSS feeds seem unlikely to me. SE algo can easily detect RSS, and knowing that the content is not original, why would it reward the displaying page? Penalties are unlikely too, as there are many RSS displaying web sited ranked really high with G and Yahoo. It seems to me that RSS shouldn't matter at all for the rankings.

Does anybody here can comment from his experience with RSS feeds?

I do not think it would be a bad idea as long as the feeds are relevant to your website.
