Search Engine Optimization: Textarea and HTML comments

Two questions about SEO:

Do search engines index content provided in a form textarea?

And content in HTML comments:

Recent tests I did showed that unique phrases inside comments do not show up in search results. Of course, the spiders download the whole document, so it is visible to them -- it's just not part of the algorithm.

I can't say for sure about textarea content. I would guess it has some impact, but at a relatively low level -- possibly even lower than a regular text occurrence of a word. But I haven't tested it. Maybe someone else can weigh in.
