SEO Improvement Software

This may be a taboo subject in a forum about SEO, but I will ask it anyway being the newbie to this. I am researching different SEO optimization software packages available on the market. I have Web Position Gold 3 and I experimenting with Internet Business Promoter by Axandra software. So far the IBP seems to be really cool with the ability to check key word density and other neat advice tactics.

My question is are any of these programs good and if so which one do most people really like and use

I did not realize the draconian approach that these search engines take against people simply trying to optimize their pages. In any case I have never used any of the optimizing features in either program, but I do use the reporting features, i.e. page ranking and key word density and how that compares to my competitors so I know where my site is at in multiple search engines and I don't have to sit there and type them all in one at a time.
