Submitted to News site and my "preview" on the News site

... is ranking higher than the actual article on my own site.

I submitted an article that I wrote (several actually) to a News site, and my "preview" text for the article is ranking in the number 1 spot in Google and most other SERPS. The article on my site ranks number 2.

The news site doesn't contain the entire article, and does link very clearly to me to view the article... no content has been duplicated as my preview of the article uses different wording.

Is this going to harm me on down the road. Am I better off keeping my articles to myself in the future?

Any suggestions/experiences shared are appreciated greatly.

Thank you,
NL

This isn't harmful, its likely to fix itself eventually. Anyway, it's not even a bad thing is it? I mean, it means you've got the #1 *and* #2 slots in the engine.

Have you tried to analyze why they are #1 and you #2? I mean, does the other site have higher PR/better site structure/better use of title tag, etc.? Since you "control" the content on both sites, you may be able to do some "SEO experimenting"... ;-)

And indeed, having the #1 slot and the #2 doesn't sound bad! :-)

I know well why it ranked higher. Mistake on my part that I have corrected.

I used my keyword backwords in my title, and properly in the title on the news site.

ie.... Widget Wonder Broom
...... Widget Broom Wonder

Seems to make all the difference. Lesson learned... but having a direct link to me @ number 2 can't be bad I guess, so long as I keep using differnt wording.

Thanks
