Easy to read, easy to organise and a good long term plan for large websites is to use
http://example.com/widget/
http://example.com/red-widget/
http://example.com/blue-widget/
as your url for your widgets page.

typical, standard, 'normal' method would be http://example.com/widget.html
http://example.com/red-widget.html
http://example.com/blue-widget.html

Do search engines seem to care about this because technicaly, the folder only method will put you one level deeper on a lot of your urls. however, a lot of major site do the folder only method.

Today it doesn't really matter. In the past it used to be helpful to have your files closer to the root.

So for a site with very concise organisaion, the folder method is acceptable? I generaly don't do it, but this time I am, it just makes sense for this web site i'm working on.
