How to split main website into 2?

I have a site which offers over 200 products, aimed at 2 different target markets. I am
planning on making a new separate website for the second target market, but would like to avoid problems with Google (removal of my site from their index), because of duplicate content. On my current site, I have 4 pages aimed at the 2nd target market.

I think a separate web site with its own market specific domain name, keywords and home page, will generate more sales.

What would be the best way to do this? Should I remove from my current site those pages for which I am going to build a new web site, to avoid duplicate content? should I leave them as they are and build a second website? do web sites get away with duplicate content?

Any input will be deeply appreciated.

Just make a second web site targeting the other part of your target audience and relax, it's not crime of the century to have duplicate content across two web sites!

Hello Jack38:

At first, I doubted the wisdom of splitting the two sites,
but you explained all that. I have never done this.

If I did, the biggest concern would be that neither site harmed the other.
I would suggest that you NOT allow any two pages on old and new
sites to resemble one another, at any given time.

Use Redirects as needed, but make them all Permanent (301s) only.

I avoid 302s as if they were the black plague. -Larry
