I've heard that if you add to many new pages at one time it could heard your ranking. I personally have tried uploading 10+ new pages and saw my traffic go down. I don't know if it is the cause of the new pages though?

So...How many new pages a day should I add or make change?

Also does making changes (rather major changes) hurt your ranking?

It WILL NOT hurt your ranking, I have added 20 or more pages in a day and my ranking never dropped. It's best to add or update at least one page a day, search engines tend to visit web sites that add new content often more then sites that update rarely.

There may be some rather vague "limit" I suppose, but I doubt it. If there is, maybe it depends on how many pages you already have.

But I very seriously doubt that simply adding pages alone will cause your traffic to drop.

It is more likely that in the process of adding the new pages and intergrating them into the navigation and content structure of your existing pages you made some other changes which caused the traffic drop.

Maybe the changes make your old pages rank differently after the changes, so less traffic.

Maybe the new pages result in less multiple page visits, less page views.

Maybe content or navigation changes make it harder for visitors to find what they are looking for, less page views.

I seldom add just one page at a time. Normally I add 10 to 50 pages and have never seen a problem as a result of the new page additions. I don't add pages every day though, once a month is more like it for me.

I do update pages several times a week though, often changing 10 to 50 pages each time.

There is no hard and fast rule about how many pages you should add in your site.
Since the crawlers love those sites which are updated constantly with fresh content, you can add or update at least one page on daily basis. Updating a page means you add at least a paragraph or two on the page.

Adding a para or two of fresh content that will add value to one's site seems more do-able and logical than one page a day. When the site is new, its a differenct matter. But If my site was started in 1999, and I had been adding one page a day my site would be too big. Unless ofcourse keep removing the old content and replace it with new appropriate content is okay. Is it? Can somebody answer that? Its not easy to make one page -complete in all respect - within a day. updating site with new, fresh relevant content seems like a better idea to me.
