Promotion for Credit Card Site

I own a credit card application site that also has informational articles that I am trying to bring Natural Traffic to via Searchengines. The problem is that there is so much competition for this type of site that its hard to get ranked for quality search words. After 7 months I still don't some up for ANY searches via google even with PR4 and with MSN and google not a whole load of traffic either. Most of these sites in this category are run off the same script and have little to no real content or articles yet all show up in front of me. Is there really anything else I can do besides SEO and add new content?

PPC?

I have used and still do use PPC but it is really not worth it unless your budget is endless. My question is only aimed at what to do to increase Search Engine Position.
