I have read in several articles that it is a good idea to place a link to your SERPS page from your website.

Is this a true seo tip or rubbish?

Sounds like rubish to me, beckyc. The only benefit I can see would come from the anchor text of the outgoing link. And you'd be better off linking to a non-competing authority site instead of a search result. That would provide a benefit for to users.

SERPS change all the time on major search engines the position and page url today may be different tomorrow.
